John can also throw grenades at groups of enemies – something that works rather well when an elevator that is filled with foes opens its doors for you to, shall we say, explore. He comes armed with a 9mm with unlimited ammo, though you can pick up various assault rifles, bazookas and other items of mass destruction. It handles surprisingly well, considering its age, and within seconds you’ll be mowing down anyone who poses a threat.
It’s played from a third-person perspective and, seeing as the Dualshock wasn’t released at the time, you’ll be using the D-Pad to move John through the various levels. The first game, titled Die Hard, has players playing as John McClane in his mission to save his wife who has been captured by the terrorists, just like in the movie. What made it such a memorable one is that you basically bought three games for the price of one. Die Hard Trilogy is a full-fledged action game that brought the experience to the living room. It’s just that we could only ever watch him be cool and never play out our own fantasies. Bruce Willis still had hair and was the exceptionally cool every-day guy action hero we all wanted to be. Where a gun solved any and all matters and a good dose of sarcasm and cheesy one-liners went a long way. You know, before Bruce Willis had daddy and hacking issues in his life.

While they may get a lot of flack for it, it truly is fun driving through Manhattan and running over as many pedestrians as possible. Anything and everything can be shot and blown up, and the explosions are breath-taking. The attention to detail in Die Hard Trilogy is superb. The third game puts you in a taxi, driving through New York City. You move through the airport, blasting enemies (and innocent bystanders) as you go. The second game is best played with a light gun. Along the way you pick up armor and weapons.

Your job is to free the hostages and blow away the terrorists. You move through the Nakatomi Plaza building, with the camera presenting everything isometrically. The first game is the most dense, and possibly the best of the three. This is one of the best games you can buy for the PlayStation, and the fact that there's actually three games makes it all the better. If you get one good game out of the bunch, you're lucky. Usually when you get multiple games packed into one CD, it feels like a "bargain basement" kind of thing.
